''Imprimeur-libraire''
Known as Jodocus Badius Ascensius, he printed classical and humanist texts, exclusively in Latin, often with his own commentaries. 
He generally dated his books sub calculo Romano or secundum Romanos,
i.e. dating the new year from 1 January, not from Easter Sunday,
though the Opera of St Hilary are dated January 1510 old style (ad calculum nostrum),
as are some books in 1520 (secundum Parrhisiorum supputationem).
He frequently printed for or in partnership with the bookseller [[Jean Petit]],
and increasingly on his own account from about 1518.
His name occasionally appears as bookseller on books printed by others,
such as [[Jean II Du Pré]] (1517-1519) and [[André Bocard]] (1518).
Renouard used the name ‘Josse Badius’; volume 2 of Imprimeurs parisiens calls him ‘Josse Bade’.
